Owner
Robert Shapiro’s education includes an MBA from Bernard
Baruch College. With 35 years experience in the food and
restaurant industry, Mr. Shapiro was founder and
principal of twelve successful New York City
restaurants. He developed the following trend-setting
restaurant concepts that received critical rave reviews
in The New York Times and New York Magazine: La
Louisiana, the first “In spot” to serve Cajun Cuisine;
Hoexter’s Market, the first high-end casual dining
experience; Texarkana, highly regarded Gulf Coast
Cuisine; and Uzie’s, THE 70’s Italian restaurant that
launched the national craze for interesting pastas and
sauces. Always on the cutting edge of industry marketing
concepts, Mr. Shapiro was founder and principal of one
of the first cookie store chains, David’s Cookies, which
franchised over 130 stores in the US and abroad.
In addition, Mr. Shapiro operated 6 grocery stores and
prime meat markets.
He is currently operating Zócalo, a regional Mexican
Restaurant on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, with a
second unit in Grand Central Terminal.
